London

When I was finishing my swathe of new galleries for Detail in July, I played around with making a quick one of London by linking to photos I’d already posted on the blog in 2002, 2006, 2013 and 2015. When I came back to the idea this month I realised that there were many other good ones I’d never used here, from those visits as well as from 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2018. (I also passed through the city briefly in 2010 during two travel disruptions.) By the time I’d finished, it had grown into my largest gallery yet, only a quarter of which is recycled from the blog. It makes for a fairly comprehensive portrait of 21st century London, although it’s already starting to look out-of-date, as the city is changing fast. One day I’ll have to add a gallery of my 35mm photos from 1985–86, 1991–92, 1998 and 2000... for a place I’ve never lived, I sure have visited it a lot.

The project also yielded a few more photos to tack onto the end of Bottles, and has sparked a new gallery-in-the-making of a famous location not far from the city. Stay tuned.
