Spring Thaw Approaches

I haven’t been able to get it together here since getting back from Canada, partly because of work and partly because of the usual photo backlog working its way through my evenings like a goat through a python. Here instead—for now—are three haiku written a couple of weeks ago for a writers’ group, the first two on the theme of the Unpublished Novel:

A thousand ideas
Suspended in memory
Spring thaw approaches

The last pine needles
Fall from the highest branches
Time to sweep them up

The third was for missing the previous month’s task of a piece featuring a train and a glass eye:

Winter’s final train
Arrives at its terminus
A glass eye rolls off

Basho, eat your heart out.
