My MySpace

A mirror of my original profile page at MySpace from August 2006.

About Me

I have a proper website, but because of MySpace’s linking policies can’t publicise its URL here, so you’ll have to google my first name and click through the first few links instead. I can’t even tell you my last name apparently, because I might be twelve years old and have to be protected from creepy internet strangers. Actually I’m 38, which makes me a creepy internet stranger. Here, kiddies, listen to my lovely poems. [I moved these videos from MySpace to YouTube shortly afterwards.]

I’d Like to Meet

A broad cross-section of the human race at random and in no particular order.

General

Cartoons, comedy, poetry, prose, photography, film, music, travel: you know, the usual stuff. Oh, and rubber bands. Particularly those big red ones. Obsessed by them. They’re so stretchy.

Music

Arcade Fire, Ash, The Beatles, Big Country, Blur, Kate Bush, The Chemical Brothers, Clouds, Crowded House, The Dandy Warhols...

(Note to self: fill in more bands here. Preferably rubber.)

...Underground Lovers, U2, The Who, World Party, You Am I, Frank Zappa.

Films

My favourite films of 2003, 2004 and 2005 were City of God, Before Sunset and Downfall. Clearly, what I’m looking for in a movie is 90 minutes of flirtatious banter between two lovers meeting up in a Berlin bunker while under attack from Brazilian street gangs. My favourite films of 2006 so far are United 93 and A Cock and Bull Story, which taken together are near enough.

Television

Since the early 1990s: Seinfeld, The Simpsons, The Late Show (Australia), Frontline (the Australian sitcom), The Day Today, Father Ted, I’m Alan Partridge, The Micallef Programme, Spaced, Black Books, Brass Eye, Futurama, The Office, Kath and Kim, Look Around You, John Safran vs God, The Mighty Boosh, Curb Your Enthusiasm, We Can Be Heroes, That Mitchell and Webb Look (which hasn’t even screened yet—outrageous), and others I’ve forgotten but will no doubt add at some later point. Oh yeah, and some non-comedy now and then.

Books

How long have you got?

Heroes

People who make things, people who make people laugh and/or think, people who make rubber bands, people who hang in there.

I posted only a handful of times to MySpace before the whole thing fizzled out...
